Trump live: Mike Waltz ‘honored’ to stay in administration after being ousted as national security adviser
In addition to leading State Department, Marco Rubio will serve as interim national security adviser until replacement named
President Donald Trump will nominate Mike Waltz to serve as his UN ambassador after ousting him as national security adviser in the first White House shake-up of his second term.
The news came after a morning of fervent speculation concerning Waltz’s future and reporting that he was being pushed out of the administration. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will add interim NSA to his responsibilities until a replacement is found.
At the National Prayer Day event in the Rose Garden, Trump made no mention of the shake-up, and Waltz was absent despite being on campus earlier.
Meanwhile, former vice president Kamala Harris mercilessly rebuked the president in her first extensive remarks since leaving Washington, D.C., in January, saying his tariff-based trade war was inviting recession and amounted to the “greatest man-made economic crisis in modern presidential history.”
Harris, the defeated Democratic nominee in last year’s presidential election, spoke at the 20th anniversary gala for Emerge America, an organization that supports left-leaning women for public office.
She further said: “Instead of an administration working to advance America's highest ideals, we are witnessing the wholesale abandonment of those ideals.”
Trump admin asks Supreme Court to allow end to legal protections for 350,000 Venezuelans from deportation
The Trump administration has asked the Supreme Court to allow for an end to legal protections shielding 350,000 Venezuelans from deportation.
Faced with a slew of legal challenges to its immigration policy, the administration has gone to the Supreme Court with an emergency request to intervene at least a dozen times already.

Trump uses National Day of Prayer to insult Biden, spread election lies and claim he was sent by god
President Donald Trump used the National Day of Prayer to attack Joe Biden, perpetuate election lies and brag about his administration’s first 100 days in office.
“We're bringing back religion in our country and we're bringing it back quickly and strongly,” the president said in a rambling speech in the Rose Garden on Thursday afternoon.
Minutes into his speech, Trump mentioned his faith advisers’ work in the White House. “No other president allowed that. They said, 'separation between church and state.' I said, ‘Alright, let's forget about that for one time.’”
In fact, his address Thursday marked a second time.

White House to push pro-Trump news with Drudge Report-style website
The White House has launched a Drudge Report-like political website collecting pro-Trump news stories, the administration’s latest attempt to sidestep critical mainstream media coverage.
The site, White House Wire, features familiar Drudge-style all-caps headlines and upbeat stories about the administration from outlets including Fox News and The Daily Caller, as well as the administration’s own X posts.
Josh Marcus reports.

Trump tired of waiting for new Air Force One
Tired of waiting for Boeing to make a new Air Force One, President Donald Trump’s administration is now revamping a plane once used by the Qatari government, according to a report.
“I’m not happy with Boeing,” the president said in February, referring to the Air Force One program. "We may buy a plane or get a plane, or something."
Now, his administration seems to be doing just that.

Watch: Amusing moment Vance mistakes reporter for steelworker
During a tour of Nucor Steel Berkeley in Huger, South Carolina, Vice President JD Vance accidentally shook hands with pool reporter Reese Gorman of NOTUS.
Realizing he was a reporter in a hard hat, not a steelworker, Vance laughs: “Oh, you guys are just reporters. You guys got all the shit on, I couldn't tell.”
Marco 'four jobs' Rubio?
Yes, it’s true —?Marco Rubio now has four jobs.
Another fun fact: the only other person to serve as both secretary of state and national security adviser was Henry Kissinger — and he did it for just over two years.
Faces of Trump’s deportation push —?who is falling victim to the immigration crackdown?
Josh Marcus writes:
Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to rapidly and brutally expel millions of immigrants.
In his first 100 days in office, he has bent every part of the government toward that goal, cracking down on non-citizen activists, invoking emergency wartime authorities, skirting court orders to stop deportation flights, pulling humanitarian protections from hundreds of thousands, and attempting to ignore the Constitution and end birthright citizenship.
In a White House defined by chaos, immigration may be the only place where the Trump administration is consistent.
For the millions of immigrants across the U.S., this has meant consistent anxiety. Will they be detained and deported without warning? Do they still have rights to protest? Will the courts check Trump, and will Trump obey the courts?
Four different immigrants and their families told The Independent about what it’s like living through this age of uncertainty. The Independent has contacted the relevant federal agencies and officials for comment on the below cases.

Waltz's UN ambassador confirmation hearing will revive Signalgate questions
To become Donald Trump’s UN ambassador, Mike Waltz will have to go through the full confirmation process, including a public hearing.
This will undoubtedly lead to more discussion of the Signalgate debacle and his role in it.
That in turn could lead to more pressure on Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth for his posts to the infamous group chat that included sensitive military information on the strikes against the Houthis.
One House Republican told Politico: “Are we sure the confirmation hearing isn’t more punishment?”
Meanwhile, Jennifer Griffin, national security correspondent for Fox News, tweeted: “Hegseth safe after Waltz pushed out of National Security role and sent to UN.”
She continues: “Hegseth threatens Iran with military action in late night tweet as the US enters its 48th day of daily bombing strikes on Houthis in Yemen. Houthi drone caused US to lose 67 million dollar F18 Monday as cost of US war against the Houthis rises.”
The embattled Hegseth received a specific shoutout from the president at today’s National Prayer Day event at the White House.
Speaking of Signal, a photo has emerged of Waltz checking the messaging app in the middle of yesterday’s Cabinet meeting.
Messages can be seen from JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, Marco Rubio, and Steve Witkoff.
