Sir: Helen Jones's article about changing fashions in men's underwear ("Not-so-brief-history of Y-fronts", 26 September) contained a rather puzzling statistic. According to the Marks & Spencer spokeswoman, Y-fronts now account for only 13 per cent of undergarment sales, while boxers and "trunks" take another 19 and 20 per cent respectively.
Reading this, one can't help wondering what arrangements the other 48 per cent of the male population are making.
My (very limited) inquiries on the subject could not explain this anomaly. One can only suspect the worst.
Yours sincerely,
