RICHARD FROMBERG has won a place in Australia's team for next month's Davis Cup final against Germany in preference to Jason Stoltenberg. Fromberg, who won both his singles matches in the quarter-final against Italy, had been recalled for the contest in Dusseldorf from 3 to 5 December which will be played on clay, his favourite surface. Fromberg will join the United States Open semi-finalist, Wally Masur, Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge. The German side will be Michael Stich, the world No 2, Marc Goellner, Patrik Kuhnen and Carl-Uwe Steeb.
MARY JOE FERNANDEZ is to partner John McEnroe in the American team for the Hopman Cup mixed team tournament, starting on New Year's Eve in Perth.
