A two-horse race for the re-born Admiral's Cup has emerged after the top places in the short offshore race were again disputed by two of the four overseas teams. The Australian 60-footer, Wild Oats, at last had the better of the King of Spain's 55-foot Bribon, which suffered lobster pot damage, but Pedro Campos pushed the Spanish duo back up to second overall while winning the 40-foot class.
Colin Beashel posted his worst result so far, third in the 40-foot After Shock. Meanwhile, the quadruple Olympic medal combination of Ben Ainslie (gold and silver) and Ian Walker (double silver) did well to dig themselves out of fifth place at one point to finish second. However, their Royal Ocean Racing Club team big boat partner, the Farr 52 skippered by Marcus Fitzgerald, had an unhappy time, finishing fifth on handicap.
