President Boris Yeltsin pressed ahead with his plans for a new Russian constitution yesterday despite opposition from his arch-rival, the parliamentary chairman, Ruslan Khasbulatov, Reuter reports from Moscow.
The presidential spokesman said Mr Yeltsin had formally signed a decree for a conference of the leaders of Russia's 88 republics and regions beginning on 5 June.
