While heavy rains have put more than 660 reservoirs in China at risk of overflowing, in the lower reaches of the Yellow River authorities are discharging water from the Xiaolangdi Reservoir to clear sediment.
Tourists yesterday gaped at the torrents of water from a viewing platform in Jiyuan in Henan Province, at the start of the 20-day operation.
Meanwhile in Anhui province in eastern China, authorities warned that reservoirs would have to start discharging water after floods hit the region.
