Gretchen Fraser, skier, died Sun Valley, Idaho 17 February aged 75. The first American to win an Olympic gold medal for skiing, awarded for the special slalom (now known as the giant slalom) at the 1948 games in St Moritz. She also took the silver medal in the combined slalom and downhill. Her husband the skier Don Fraser died last year.
