WEARING contact lenses overnight encourages inflammation of the eyes, research from the Johns Hopkins University in the United States has found. The risk of ulcerative keratitis (inflammation of the outer protective layer of the eye) increased eightfold among the 40 patients who kept their contact lenses in all night. This was regardless of the type of lens worn or the level of hygiene practised by the users.
