Sir: Tom Lubbock's comparison ("It's got to go", 1 December) of the Oscar Wilde statue with the transi of tomb sculpture misses a much more telling one -with the Green Men depicted so widely and enigmatically in medieval ecclesiastical carving. Maggi Hambling is to be congratulated for suggesting the foliate head in her creation, pulling our legs, hinting we're wrong and had better be careful, leaving a wisp of something not quite nice in the air, like the smoke from Wilde's cigarette. Floreat!
